artistic processes lab (LPA)

Luiza Baldan

What?

The Artistic Practices Laboratory (LPA) is a nine-month training and project development program aimed at artists and those interested in experimenting and developing projects for new artistic works, regardless of academic background or career stage. The laboratory promotes horizontal exchanges in which each participant shares the work process from the first sparks to uncertainties, tests, production, and completion. At the end of the period, the works will be presented in the collective exhibition AMOSTRA, hosted by the NowHere space in Lisbon. In its 4th edition, the LPA will be held in partnership with the Parque Lage School of Visual Arts and will take place in a hybrid format, in person at the NowHere Lisbon facilities and online through the platform provided by EAV Parque Lage.

Structure and method

The course is based on observation, discussion, and collective collaboration.

Months 1 to 3: research, sorting desires, and designing proposals to start projects.

Month 4: break.

Months 5 to 8: production, critical monitoring, and preparation of the collective exhibition AMOSTRA.

Month 9: assembly and opening of the collective exhibition AMOSTRA.

Content and dynamics

The meetings are hybrid, with in-person sessions at NowHere Lisboa and online for participants from other cities.

The theoretical and practical references follow the participants' lines of research and include the contribution of artist Nico Espinoza in the introduction to sound practices.

The curatorship and exhibition design are by Cristiana Tejo, who monitors the development of the projects and designs the collective exhibition, and Rafael Moretti and Victor Gonçalves, who assist with assembly and presentation solutions.
